ADAS Part 4 Closed Bell Course

Mixed Gas (Saturation) Diving Offshore To 300 Metres

The ADAS Part 4 Closed Bell Course is seen by many as the ultimate aim of most commercial divers; it certainly provides an enviable lifestyle as well as excellent earning potential and great job satisfaction.

Training to be an ADAS Part 4 Closed Bell diver will take your career to a whole new level and, here in Tasmania, we are the only school in the Southern Hemisphere to help you achieve such a goal.  Upon successful completion of this training, it will provide you with the knowledge and certification that enables you to dive below 100m using oxygen and helium breathing mixtures (hence it’s often used name of mixed gas diving) and saturation techniques.  As a mixed gas diver, you will have more and varied career opportunities available to you, within the oil and gas industry as well as the emerging renewables sector.  Day rates for mixed gas/ sat divers at the moment can be over $1600 a day.

Sheltered training environment

The course takes place on Lake Cethana, which is protected from adverse weather, meaning no delays to your course and so minimsing your time away from work.  The practical elements of the course, using the sat system on our barge, consist of 12 shallow bell runs, followed by a deep dive encompassing 3 bounces and 2 sat excursions to 100m.  You’ll be assessed throughout the course to ensure everyone is up to speed, and at the end of the course there are theoretical and practical tests.

First-hand, shared experience

Kenny Kinnaird, who leads the instructional team on this course, as well as the Closed Bell course at our Fort William Centre, brings many years of experience as an air and mixed gas diver.  His extensive commercial diving career has included working around the world completing underwater construction and inspection work, hyperbaric welding and pipeline construction, to mention just a few jobs. As well as providing the instructional and practical elements of the course, Kenny also takes time to share his own, personal experience of working in saturation and in the commercial diving industry in general; experiences which aren’t written in any manual!

By sharing our instructors between our Fort William and Tasmania Centres, we provide direct access to the booming North Sea oil and gas industry, while ensuring the best practices developed in Australia and the UK are used to deliver both courses.

The ADAS Part 4 Closed Bell Course is for experienced air divers, who have at least 12 months experience diving at work with an ADAS Part 3 certification or recognised equivalent.  Please see the attached student prerequisites you must have before being able to attend this course.
